Leap Engine RPG

Leap Engine is a set of core rules (SRD) for playing a role-playing game with your friends. The rules are light and concise, built around a simple d10 roll-under mechanic. The game promotes the idea that players are the ones controlling how far to push a certain situation. They will, inevitably, create complications for themselves and give the GM an opportunity to build on that.

This document covers everything you need to play, and then some. It is loosely built around a fantasy setting, but it can be used for different genres as well. The game works best when played with semi-realistic characters. Characters that are heroes, but still vulnerable and invested in the world they occupy.

The main design goal is to make it accessible to those whose time is limited but still expect quite a bit of depth from their games. It aims to make it easy for the GM to moderate the game with little to no preparation, but it is still flexible enough to allow for complex characters, actions, and situations. Story, theme, and flavor are yours to create, while the engine provides you with the means to do so.

• Character creation can be done in 5 minutes and allows for a lot of customization through custom-made aspects, specializations and professions.
• Flexible magical or supernatural actions that can be created on the fly.
• Fast combat that still supports strategic approach.
• Minimal bookkeeping, but your choice of items makes a difference.
• The GM section provides guidelines and tables to help you run your games smoothly. It elaborates on the concepts used in the game, but also provides systems to easily create non-playing characters, factions, monsters etc.

The whole document has about 40 pages of player-facing rules and 40 dedicated to helping the GM run the game easily.
